about

Think Little Library but with food instead of books. We provide food assistance to hungry people. Accessing aid is as simple as taking what you need from the box. The box is located at 1620 48th ST NW Canton. Simply pull up anytime, day or night, and help yourself. All we ask is that you never take more than you can eat, and if you ever get rich, come back and pay it forward.

Marianna (Baron) Guz, known affectionately as Babcia (grandma in Polish), took care of her neighbors and raised her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to do the same. One of her 29 great-grandchildren maintains this box in her loving memory.

Marianna raised 12 kids during the Great Depression, so it's safe to say she knew a thing or two about hard times. If Marianna were alive today, she likely wouldn't qualify for most forms of food aid. She didn't speak English, so she would have found it hard to do the paperwork or interviews required. She wasn't a US Citizen. And her entire family shared one car. Getting everyone to work often involved some ingenuity, so it's unlikely she would have been able to use the car to access a food bank during their limited hours. About 30% of people who are food insecure do not qualify for traditional forms of food aid or are unable to access traditional food banks.

Our Little Pantry does not ask questions, it does not judge. No matter how temporary or permanent your need is, no matter your citizenship status or your other demographics, the Little Pantry is there for you.

About the Caretakers

Hi I'm Emily! Along with my husband Bruce and our son Theo, we maintain the Little Pantry.

Emily knew that with the combination of increasing food prices, and decreasing aid, many families in her neighborhood would go hungry. At some point, Emily stopped thinking "someone should do something" and started thinking "*I* need to do something!"
